Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a national nonprofit organization formed by the merger of Literacy Volunteers of America and Laubach Literacy. Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County works to improve reading, writing, and related literacy skills of adults and their families. Programs are free, private, and confidential. Trained volunteer tutors help learners identify needs and achieve personal literacy goals. For the last eighteen years, this affiliate has provided support and encouragement to the large number of Waldo County nonreaders who want to learn to read and to improve their literacy skills. We also participate in community events to educate the public about the importance of literacy and to promote the joy of reading.

Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County accepts students without discrimination on the basis of gender, age, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or familial status.

We need volunteers to tutor, train new tutors, perform committee work, provide administrative help, and assist with writing grants to fund LVWC projects. You can also help us with a donation or by buying our fabulous, customized bookplates.
